Choosing underfloor heating from your electrician

Choosing underfloor heating from your electrician

It’s 7am. Your alarm has gone off twice already and the temptation to press snooze just one more time is huge. The sun might be shining but there’s a chill in the air and the day is yet to heat up – the thought of leaving your cosy duvet cocoon and stepping onto the cold floor is not one that’s filling you with joy.

We feel certain that the above is a scenario you’re more than familiar with – fortunately, we’re here to tell you that it needn’t be the norm! Underfloor heating sounds like a luxury feature that few can afford; however, over time it can actually save you money! Here’s how.

Energy

Essentially, when you install underfloor heating you’re turning your whole floor into a radiator (which, if you ask us, sounds fabulous in itself). Unlike a traditional radiator, which has to produce a lot of heat in order for a room to feel the benefit, underfloor heating is able to quickly warm a space.
Because of this, underfloor heating systems can use anywhere between 15 to 40 per cent less energy than a standard radiator – equating to lower energy bills for you as well as less waiting around to get warm in the colder months!

Positioning

The clue is in the name – underfloor heating heats from the bottom up, meaning that energy isn’t wasted in the same way as it is with traditional radiators. Due to the fact that heat rises and radiators are attached to walls, warmth is often lost through ceilings and the walls the radiators are attached to. With underfloor heating, the warmth is distributed more evenly and consistently – meaning that you won’t be fighting for the sweet spot on the sofa closest to the radiator!

Working together

If you make sure that your home is well insulated and you use underfloor heating in conjunction with a remote smart-home system, then you’ll see real savings on your bills as well as feeling the benefits in terms of your comfort levels.

It’s important to remember that you don’t have to just rely on underfloor heating systems. Underfloor heating can be part of your wider heating solution, used in conjunction with traditional radiators in the spaces where they are necessary for the layout of a room or the furniture that you’ve chosen.
